Treats of fruit and vegetables

Experience project

More and more primary schools are promoting healthy treats, a fantastic development that entirely suits Aartsen Kids Foundation's ambitions. AKF is making an important contribution to this development by helping schools make children even more aware of the importance of good nutrition and a healthy lifestyle, such as with the project ‘Stoere Traktaties’ (Cool Treats), which AKF uses to encourage using fruit and vegetables for treats at the primary school level.

Experience project 'Stoere Traktaties

In the school project 'Stoere Traktaties' (Cool Treats), Aartsen Kids Foundation allows children in groups 4 and 5 to experience how fun, tasty and cool healthy treats can be. We achieve this goal by communicating through the power of 'experience'. The children are extra receptive to the message directly at the start of the project when the class is treated to an exciting crate. A new world will open up for them with this crate filled with a variety a fresh vegetables and fruit, taste experiences and lesson materials such as workbooks and games.

In addition to the crate, the project consists of four lessons offered online. The children are introduced to different types of fruit and vegetables, and the 'Fruitzooitje' (Fruit Gang) brings the children along on the journey that these various fruits and vegetables take 'from ground to mouth'. During the project, the main emphasis is on the children's own contributions. Inspired by the stories and experiences of the Fruit Gang, the children go to work and ultimately come up with their own Cool Treats.

Experience projects evolution

'Stoere Traktaties' (Cool Treats) is Aartsen Kids Foundation's first experience project designed for primary schools. The project is constantly being fine-tuned. In the process, Aartsen Kids Foundation responds to the demand from teachers and children.

With a long-term goal of reaching the national level, AKF hopes that short experience projects and interventions such as 'Stoere Traktaties' will become just as important in primary schools as reading, writing and arithmetic. To learn more, please visit www.stoeretraktaties.nl
